AMI

What is Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and why the City of Franklin Water Management decided to implement this technology

Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks, and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers.

The City of Franklin Water Management Department decided to implement Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), which transmits hourly water consumption data. This information is helpful to customers, as it can help them conserve water and manage the size of their bill. It is also helpful to us, as it can help proactively notify customers of leaks, reduce operational costs of meter reading, and enforce conservation goals. We are proud to utilize state of the art technology to help us better serve our customers and manage our resources

The City of Franklin Water Management Department implemented Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system 20 to 25 years ago. A traditional AMR system provides remote meter reading but transmits limited data and still requires the support of meter-reading personnel. This technology is quickly approaching the end of its useful life.

The City of Franklin water Management Department has installed 4 communication towers and installed 8,000 smart meters and transmitters. We are currently working on software conversion and the installation of 10,000 smart water meters and transmitters.
