Water Reclamation Facility
The Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment (Water Reclamation Facility) takes a proactive approach to operations and upgrades to the system began in April of 2019. The Water Reclamation Facility: an activated-sludge treatment facility with nutrient removal, tertiary filtration, and ultraviolet light disinfection. The City currently has a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit for discharge of sixteen (16) million gallons per day (MGD). Effluent limits on constituents were established by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) through extensive studies performed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the Harpeth River. The City was the first in the state to operate a reclaimed water network, that uses effluent for irrigation purposes within the City. The City consistently outperforms the permit requirements and is among the top performers of wastewater treatment in the state.
SE Wastewater Capacity Evaluation
A decade ago, the City of Franklin developed an Integrated Water Resources Plan (IWRP), a roadmap for the highest and best use of water resources in Franklin and our stewardship of the Harpeth River. Now, the City continues to move forward with the next steps for securing local water supplies for the future.
Water Purification Demonstration Facility
A water purification demonstration facility came online in Fall 2022 to test and monitor advanced technologies including membrane filtration, ozonation, biofiltration, granular activated carbon, and ultraviolet light with advanced oxidation. These proven, well-explored processes—currently utilized across the United States and around the world—are designed to work together to remove smaller and smaller physical, chemical, and microbial contaminants from the water until we are left with purified water, which is water that has been verified through monitoring to be safe for augmenting drinking water supplies.
Spencer Creek at Franklin Road Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project
The Spencer Creek at Franklin Road Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project consists of sanitary sewer work in two areas. The work to be performed (Work) will be in two areas. Area 1, around the Franklin Road area just South of Mack Hatcher, will be the largest portion and area 2 will be in the Cool Springs area adjacent to PF Chang’s Restaurant.
Redwing Reclaimed Water Pump Station
The work consists of the construction of the pilot building, pilot equipment and appurtenances, and ancillary systems for the City’s use in pilot testing various treatment technologies as well as the construction of the pump station for reclaimed water.
Advanced Metering Infrastructure
Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks, and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers.
Adams Street
The Adams Street water and sewer improvements project includes the replacement of the water and sanitary sewer lines along Adams Street from Carolyn Avenue to the intersection of E Fowlkes/Lewisburg Avenue.
