The Word on the Street

Roadway Closures for 11/18/2024 at 08:05am:

Short-term Road Closure:

None at this time.

 

Long-term Road Closure:

On 5th Avenue between Church Street and Margin Street/Lewisburg Pike will be closed for a water/sewer project.  The closure will last six to eight weeks.  Signed detours route traffic around the area.

Boyd Mill Avenue between New Hwy 96 West and 3266 Boyd Mill Avenue will be closed for a road widening project.  The closure will begin Monday, 07/08/2024 and end on Friday, 11/22/2024.  Detour signs will be posted.

Jordan Road between Aspen Grove and the movie theater access road, will be closed for one year, starting 03/25/24 until 03/25/25 for road reconstruction.

Reminder: During the winter months, we continuously monitor the weather and are preparing for more inclement weather as needed.  Remember that for snow/ice events, we salt on a limited basis.

We prioritize the roads by size and location. The order of priority is: major arterials, major collectors, dangerous hills and curves, and emergency access points for first responders, hospitals, and elder-care facilities.  Please understand that we do not have the resources to salt and brine every roadway in the City.

 

Facility Closures

The Compost Facility is closed for compost sales beginning October 7, 2024 and reopens on January 7th, 2024.

It is important for property owners to understand the ownership and maintenance issues associated with having an easement on the owners property.

 City vs State Roads

The City of Franklin maintains hundreds of miles of roadway within the city limit.  There are several major roadways in the city that are owned and maintained by TDOT.  These roads are:

Columbia Pike

Franklin Road

Hillsboro Road

Hwy 96 East/Murfreesboro Road

Lewisburg Pike

Mack Hatcher Parkway

Main Street

New Hwy 96 West

West Main Street

The Streets Department is dedicated to enhancing our citizen's quality of life by providing quality maintenance to city-owned infrastructure within the city limits. Our maintenance duties include:
