The issuance of a permit shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the City of Franklin adopted codes. The issuance of a permit shall not prevent the fire code official from requiring correction of fire code violations. The fire code official is authorized to revoke the permit under certain conditions including, but not limited to, any one of the following:

  • The permit is used for a location other than that for which is was issued.
  • The permit is used for a condition or activity other than listed in the permit.
  • The permit is used by a different person or firm than the name for which it was issued.
  • Conditions and limitations set forth in the permit have been violated. This includes the timeframe agreed upon in the application.

Tent/canopy restrictions

  • Tents are required to be located 20-feet from adjacent buildings, and 12-feet from other tents.
  • Tents or membrane structures shall not be erected longer than 90 days without submitting an additional application for tent permit.
  • A minimum of one (1) 5lb ABC fire extinguisher is required.
  • No cooking, smoking or open flames are permitted within the tent.
  • A tent with side walls shall be treated as a building:
    • Exit and emergency lights are required.
    • A minimum of two exits are required.
    • Exits must be square, 72-inches wide, and 80-inches high.
    • If exits are covered, the material shall be a contrasting color.
    • Contents shall be a minimum of 36-inches from the sides of the tent.
  • Tent heating:
    • Heating only by indirect means unless the heater is listed for use inside tents.
    • Heating equipment must be kept 10-feet from the tent sides.
  • Generators must be kept 20-feet from the tent.
  • LPG cylinders of less than 500 gallons must be kept 10-feet from the tent.
