Donation levels below normal – Franklin Firefighters extend deadline for Toy and Clothing Drive

Fire station open house on Saturday complete with Santa visit good opportunity to get involved

Franklin, TN – With donation levels well below past years, Franklin Firefighters have extended the deadline for their Annual Toy and Clothing Drive to Monday, December 16, and are issuing a plea for help.

“There are many gift requests remaining on the toy drive displays outside every fire station waiting to be filled,” said Franklin Fire Captain Clay Mackey, who is one of the event organizers. He noted that a shorter holiday shopping season due to a late Thanksgiving may have impacted giving. “The community has always been incredibly supportive and generous and we’re optimistic they will come through again.”

This Saturday, December 14 is a great opportunity to get involved. Stop by Franklin Fire Station 5 during the station’s annual Christmas open house. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there for photo opportunities, along with refreshments, a prize drawing, and giveaways for children. Located at 215 Noah Drive, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon.

While you’re there, select a gift request card from the toy drive display and help make a local child’s Christmas more merry and bright. Return the new, unwrapped gift to the fire station with the request card attached. Monetary donations may also be made to Franklin Firefighters Charities and will be used to purchase gifts. All contributions are tax deductible. If you can’t make it to the open house, you may stop by any Franklin fire station or Franklin City Hall.

The initiative benefits children identified by the Williamson County Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Tennessee, which works with other charities to prevent duplication of contributions.

Mackey said the toy and clothing drive has provided coats, clothes, shoes and toys to nearly 2,000 children since 2008.
