The City of Franklin operates one of the best performing wastewater treatment facilities in the state.  The City is currently working on an upgrade and expansion to the plant based on updated science and extensive modeling of its impact on the Harpeth River. The upgrade and expansion will meet the growing needs of our community, and will bring enhanced, state-of-the-art treatment technology designed to further reduce nutrient discharge into the Harpeth River.  In 2017 the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation issued a new discharge permit to the City, which allowed the City to move forward with the upgrade.

The City was also approved for a 100 million State Revolving Fund loan to help pay for the treatment plant enhancements, which will save Franklin rate payers more than 30 million dollars over the life of the loan.
