What is Envision Franklin?

The Franklin Municipal Planning Commission (FMPC) adopted the Envision Franklin Plan on January 26, 2017. Envision Franklin articulates the long-term vision that will direct future development in a way that strengthens the City and creates exceptional places for people.  It is a planning document adopted and maintained by The Franklin Municipal Planning Commission.
Why does the plan need to be updated?

Planning is an ongoing process that responds to new information and changing conditions, challenges, and opportunities. Major Plan updates should occur every five years to give the City an opportunity to reaffirm the validity of the vision, revise the Plan to be relevant to today’s world, and draft new strategies for consideration. This update will be a significant undertaking involving public officials, City staff, citizens, and consultant services. The update should include an evaluation of areas where the Plan has been successful and where there may be a need for refinement, based on the following:

1. Identification of changing conditions, trends, or new approaches;

2. Evaluation of policies to determine their effectiveness and relevance to current conditions and trends;

3. Necessary adjustments due to changes in State law; and

4. Assessment of Plan amendments and/or any other deviations from the Plan to determine if there is a pattern of emerging changes.

Factory District Community Workshop: February 16th 5:30-7 PM

@ The Factory Liberty Hall

The intent of this meeting is to generate ideas and help create a new vision for the area around the Factory at Franklin. The REA consultant team working on the Envision Franklin Update will facilitate this interactive meeting. This effort will involve a focus on placemaking and could include provisions for on-street parking along Liberty Pike, pedestrian streetscape enhancements, and encouragement of public art and creativity that would complement the area. It will also include considering additional land uses for the district, the boundaries of which would also need to be determined.
