I want to apply for a job with the City of Franklin but there are no vacancies that I am interested in applying for. What should I do?
The City of Franklin only accepts applications when there is a vacancy. If you do not see a vacancy you wish to apply for, please periodically check our website. The vacancies are usually posted for a minimum of two weeks.1) Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in 3 phases of the testing process on Test Day (they must pass each phase before advancing to the next):
2) Applicants are required to RSVP with their chosen test date, at which time they will receive test day details and instructions. Applicants who are not able to test on that date or fail to show up will be disqualified. There are no make-up testing dates.
3) Applicants who complete all phases of the testing process will be ranked on a Certification List to assess all candidates’ education, experience, certifications, and panel interview scores. The Certification List is valid for 6 months and as vacancies occur during this period, candidates will receive conditional job offers.
4) Job offers are contingent on passing a polygraph examination, NFPA 1582 pre-employment physical, and full background check.
5) Once all pre-employment tests are completed and passed by the candidates, start dates are confirmed with the candidates and the job offer is no longer conditional.

Once the deadline for application has passed, applications must be pre-screened based on the minimum qualifications. Qualified applicants are sent to the Department Director for their review. From these applicants, they select candidates to interview. Candidates selected for interview will be contacted by telephone. After the interviews have been conducted, the Human Resources Department ranks candidates based on their education, experience, interview scores, and other relevant factors. Once a selection has been made and the selected candidate has been contacted, Human Resources will send e-mails to all applicants notifying them that the position has been filled, but their application will remain on file for six months.
You are welcome to contact the Human Resources Office at (615) 791-3216 at any time about your application. We can update you on how the job is progressing.
- A completed online application is required for all positions to formally apply for a job. The additional information provided by an application is needed to verify your employment history and qualifications.
First, research the organization and department you are applying to and compare your skills and qualifications to the job requirements. Next, plan for what to wear. No matter the position, make sure to dress for success! Lastly, give yourself plenty of time to find parking so that you may arrive on time. The City of Franklin conducts panel interviews for all positions. The panels typically consist of the hiring manager, HR, and other personnel who work closely with the position being filled.
What are the next steps after I have received a conditional offer and what is the timing from conditional offer to first day?
Once you have been selected by the hiring manager, HR will extend a conditional offer of employment. After you accept the conditional offer of employment, we will schedule your drug test, background check, and physical. It can take up to 7-10 business days for us to receive results back from all pre-employment screenings. We suggest candidates wait to turn in a two week notice until after we have received all pre-employment screenings back.- The closing date is the last day we will accept applications for a specific position. Applications received after that date will not be considered for the position.
