Knox Rapid Access System

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The Franklin Fire Department utilizes the Knox Rapid Access System to quickly enter commercial and residential properties during emergencies.

The Knox system includes a key box or vault, called a “Knox Box.”  It is placed on your building or property and only your fire department can open it.  Your Knox Box will contain keys and access cards to your property.

Ordering Instructions

  • Select: “Buy”
  • Enter your location/fire department
  • Order directly from Knox Box or from one of their trusted partners.
  • Your fire department must verify your order to confirm it is keyed to the correct jurisdiction.
  • Please confirm the appropriate Knox Box model with FFD before ordering:
    • Commercial:
      •  The 3200 series is most often indicated for single tenant spaces/buildings.
      • For larger buildings with multiple tenants the 4100 or 4400 series models may be required.
      • For all models, we recommend the hinged door with recess mount for added security.
      • If the building has a fire sprinkler system, Knox FDC caps or plugs are also required.
    • Residential:

Knox Box Installation

  • The building owner is responsible for installing the Knox Box.
  • It must be mounted on the exterior of the building,  within 3' of the main entrance, at a height of between 6' - 7'.
  • Surface-recessed Knox Box installations are permitted, provided the Knox Box is clearly marked.
  • Once the Knox Box is installed, the building owner must contact the Franklin Fire Department to finalize the installation.
  • Firefighters will inspect the Knox Box and install the access keys.
