Redmond Liquor Store Fire Rescues – March 2, 1981
According to The Review Appeal, "One person was critically burned and four buildings gutted as fire heavily damaged the entire middle of the 400 block on Main Street..." (March 3, 1981, p. 1). The fire started in the living space above Will Redmond's liquor store, located across from the Franklin Theatre at 416 Main St. “We made four rescues – two out front and two out back,” said Retired Battalion Chief Gentry Fox. International Women's Day - March 8
On International Women’s Day we celebrate Lt. Charlene Forehand, FFD’s first female officer. She was hired in 1998 as FFD's second female firefighter after Katy Bushre (1996), and promoted to lieutenant in 2007.
Tennessee Female College Fire – March 11, 1886
The Tennessee Female College, situated on South Margin St. between 4th and 5th Avenues, suffered one of the costliest fires in Franklin during the 19th century. The building was valued at $10,000 and the contents were valued at $4,500. The school was rebuilt and reopened in 1887. The new building had three-stories and a five-story tower. It was torn down in 1916.
