Egyptian Lacquers Fire Fatality – June 23, 1999

A workplace fire at Egyptian Lacquers seriously injured employee Johnny Rainey, a 41-year old man, and ultimately claimed his life.  Mr. Rainey died from his injuries on July 4, 1999.

Georgia Boot Co. Warehouse Fires - June 26, 1973

Around 5:30 a.m., two large warehouses located on 1st Avenue South, containing raw materials belonging to the Georgia Boot Company, burned down.  The contents, used in the manufacture of boots, were valued at $1 million.  The warehouses were owned by R.N. Clarence Caldwell, a 60-year old man, died in a fire at 206 Cherry Dr. that was caused by unattended cooking on the stove.
