Firefighter Rescue at Tyne Drive House Fire - July 28, 2004

When firefighters made entry to fight a house fire in the Founder’s Pointe subdivision, they didn’t realize the flames were beneath them in the crawl space.

They were in the kitchen when the floor collapsed under Firefighter Jonathan Jenkins (who is now a Battalion Chief), sending him plunging and disappearing into the fiery crawl space below.

Founder's Pointe 07-28-2004 Despite heavy smoke and zero visibility, Lt. Terry Hood (retired) and Firefighter Kyle Bess (now Captain Bess) located him and helped pull him out.

FF Jenkins escaped serious injury, suffering second degree burns to his face and body.  FF Bess also sustained burn injuries.

The new homeowners were in the process of moving into the residence at 212 Tyne Dr. that day.  They had placed a cardboard box on top of the stove then left.

A stove burner knob left or bumped in the "on"Founder's Pointe 07-28-2004 page 2 position caused the box to ignite after the power to the home was turned on by the electric company.  The smoldering box fell onto the floor and then burned through the floor into the crawl space.
