Untreated high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, angina, heart failure, kidney failure, and peripheral arterial disease (PAD). High blood pressure usually doesn’t have any signs. According to the American Heart Association, about 72 million Americans and 1 in 3 adults have high blood pressure, and many don’t even know they have it.
Franklin Fire EMS Officer Sarah Glenn said, “The only way to know if your blood pressure is high is to have it checked regularly. The earlier you catch high blood pressure, the better chance you have of preventing heart disease. While you’re out shopping for your Valentine, take a few minutes and show a little love for your own heart with a quick and easy blood pressure check.”
