Franklin, TN – Residents and business owners in Franklin experiencing problems with crime and quality of life issues will soon see a fresh approach to resolving them. In addition to traditional police patrol, a newly organized unit will hit the street tomorrow afternoon at 3:00. Officers Alley Evola, Jeff Carson, Brandon Sandrell, and Phillip Wise make up the Flex Unit. Sergeants Scott Legieza and Don Zelaya called the newly created unit a fresh approach to 21st Century policing. The two sergeants will closely monitor the unit’s efforts, and proactively solicit input from members of the community in order to focus on areas and issues in need of added police interaction.

“The unit will have the flexibility to address neighborhood-level and area-specific problems utilizing non-traditional methods,” said Assistant Police Chief David Rahinsky. “They will work varied hours and days of the week, and will combine high-visibility patrol in marked cars and uniforms with the use of covert vehicles and plain clothes to fight crime.”

Flex Unit Officers will keep a watchful eye on crime trends in Franklin by monitoring crimereports.com. The computer module, used in cities like Baltimore, Boston, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., offers powerful law-enforcement-only trend prediction tools to help pinpoint when and where officers are needed most. Franklin Police announced their launch of that system late September. Citizens can visit crimereports.com to view a map, updated every 24-hours, that details reported crimes in and around their neighborhoods.
