Franklin, TN - Fire significantly damaged a home on Strahl St. just before 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. A woman who was the homeowner and only resident was not there when the fire started.
Franklin Fire Marshal Andy King said the fire started in the kitchen of the one and a half story home. He said it appeared the resident accidentally bumped the control knob on the stove, inadvertently turning the back burner on high. He said the stove was older so the control knob did not have to be pushed in to turn, like control knobs do today. King said items stored on the stovetop ignited after the woman left the house.
The Franklin Fire Department responded around 1:44 p.m. with two engines, two tower trucks, one ladder truck, two rescue trucks and 16 personnel. King estimated damages of $40,000 to the $100,000 home.
The Williamson County Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the homeowner.
Firefighters prepare to cut a hole in the roof to allow heat and smoke to escape.
Fire Engineer Darryl Jones operates the pump on Engine 1.
