Franklin, TN – Friends, family, and fellow officers will meet at Police Headquarters Thursday afternoon at 2:00 to celebrate the 25-year career of retiring Franklin Police Sergeant Terrence Smithson, whose first day on the job was July 13, 1987. Sergeant Smithson’s distinguished career has included assignments to Operations, Administration, and Criminal Investigations where he now manages the Department’s Major Crimes Unit. Prior to his service to the citizens of Franklin, Sergeant Smithson worked as a Correctional Officer for the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

Sergeant Smithson will most miss his daily service to the people he’s served for the past 25 years. “It’s been rewarding to be able to serve the people of the community where I was born. I have taken great pride in putting on a Franklin Police uniform, always doing my best to represent what it stands for: The service and protection of this community.” Sergeant Smithson looks forward to a little more time with family, and volunteering in sports ministry. “This season in my life is coming to a close, and I anxiously await the spring of the next season.”

Raised on a farm in nearby College Grove, Sergeant Smithson is a graduate of Fred J. Page High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University, and is a graduate of the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy. He and his wife, Susan, are members of Bethel World Outreach Church in Brentwood. Sergeant Smithson has two adult sons, Andre and Alex.
