Battle of Franklin Illumination

The 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Franklin and Annual Illumination

To commemorate the Sesquicentennial of the Battle of Franklin, 10,000 luminaries, representing the casualties of the battle, will be lit at dusk. Luminaries will be present along Columbia Pike, at Carter House, at Lotz House, and at several points on the battlefield in that area. Luminaries will also be present at Carnton adjacent to the Confederate Cemetery. Luminaries will be lit at dusk until approximately 9 pm.

Church bells will toll for five minutes downtown beginning at 4 pm. A ceremony at Carter House will begin around 4:05 pm with remarks by Mayor Ken Moore and Eric Jacobson, Battle of Franklin Trust CEO.

A ceremony at Carnton will begin at 4:45 pm. Carroll Van West, State Historian, and Julian Bibb, Heritage Foundation President and Franklin’s Charge member, will speak briefly. Eric Jacobson will close with final remarks.

Carter House and Carnton will open to the public free of charge from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
