The City of Franklin will remember and honor veterans at its Veterans’ Day Parade being held in Downtown Franklin on November 11th at 11 a.m. The parade is a joint effort of the City and local radio station WAKM AM-950.
Eight World War II veterans have been chosen as this year’s Grand Marshals. Immediately following the Veterans Day Parade there will be a dedication ceremony for the newly installed gun carriages on the Square. These authentic reproductions were made possible by the Cannons on the Square committee and the City of Franklin. The group’s goal was to purchase and install the National Park-quality reproduction No. 1 Field Carriages on the Franklin Square by November 30, 2014, which is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin.
The parade route travels down Main Street, from Five Points to Second Avenue. JROTC units and marching bands from Williamson County high schools will participate. The Franklin Special School District and Battleground Academy will also send a large group of students to show their appreciation to veterans.
The Parade begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. at West Main and Fifth Avenue. The dedication ceremony for the carriages is expected to start at approximtely 11:30 on the Square. Prior to the parade, a reception will be held at the Williamson County Archives from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. for local veterans and their families.
