Informational Meeting on Hazard Mitigation Grant Program

Public Meeting for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program September 22
Informational Meeting for Residents Who May Qualify for Program

Franklin— A public meeting has been set for Wednesday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Board Room for residents who may be interested in the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Of the City’s more than 400 damaged structures from the May 1st and 2nd floods, some may qualify for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).

Through the HMGP, FEMA awards grants to communities to partially fund activities that significantly reduce or permanently eliminate the loss of life and property from natural disasters. One activity that is often funded in the HMGP is acquisition of flood prone residential properties and this is the specific activity that the City is exploring. The purpose of acquiring properties in the floodplain would be to prevent future flooding and damage in the area.

The HMGP public meeting will be held for all homeowners interested in selling their property that has been severely damaged in the May floods. City leaders will explain a homeowners/ rights and options under this program. The meeting will be held on September 22nd at 6:00 p.m., at the below listed address.

City Hall Boardroom
109 Third AVE South
Franklin, TN 37064

After this initial public meeting, interested residents will have until October 25 to submit their letter of interest to the City to be considered for the program. More information about the program including a fact sheet and resident questionnaire is posted on the City of Franklin Website at www.franklintn.gov.
