Public Hearing - Water Reclamation Facility Discharge Permit Renewal

For more information on Public Hearing, including how to attend or participate, click Notice of Public Hearing.

The Water Reclamation Facility has applied to renew their National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, which is on a renewal cycle every 5 years (previous was issued in July 2017).  The application, submitted by the Water Management Department, was a renewal of the previous limitations and loads, including nutrients, outlined in the 2017 permit.

The Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) issued the permit as a reissuance, with no change in limits, and actually cited how well the facility is operating. In fact, the permit language states: “A review of the permittee’s Discharge Monitoring Reports from September 2018 through February 2022 revealed that the permittee did an excellent job removing pollutants and meeting permit limits".  As with every permit, it was distributed to the public for comment and a public hearing was requested. The public hearing is set for Tuesday, August 30th.  In the interim, the WRF is continuing to operate under the previous permit limitations as prescribed by TDEC.
