Taking the LEED. The City recently passed a resolution stating the City will pursue LEED Silver Certification for future municipal building projects. LEED is the industry standard for sustainable buildings. LEED Silver buildings typically cost 2% more than non LEED buildings, but have a seven year payback. The LEED program ensures buildings are constructed to a high level of energy and water efficiency, leave a lighter footprint on the environment, and provide a healthy indoor work place.

Building a Framework
In 2008 more than 250 members of the community volunteered their time and efforts to develop a vision for our city. By the Summer of 2009, the community driven process culminated in the release of The Sustainable Community Action Plan. Similarly, City Staff put together a Municipal Action Plan to help strengthen local government operations. These corresponding plans work together and provide a roadmap to Franklin's long-term success and viability.
The Sustainability Plans are living documents that are in constant use and the Sustainability Commission is incrementally bringing the action items foward. The idea is to push initiatives and policies that make sense for Franklin and are good for our long-term future.
